Abstract

A genetic pedigree is an effective and simple tool for identifying individuals at risk for single-gene disorders or for common diseases, as well as an important method for establishing patient rapport, providing patient education, and identifying other relatives at risk for disease. Techniques for obtaining a pedigree, and pedigree analysis and risk assessment are reviewed.
