Abstract

In the past few years, the technology of sequencing has developed to the stage at which the sequencing of a complete genome can be contemplated as a practical and routine possibility. To cope with the exponentially growing data, methodologies for computational classification of biological sequences are required. Recently, several approaches for automatic functional classification of proteins were developed. This review describes the most widely applied clustering algorithms in Bioinformatics and resources developed for protein classification.
