Abstract

The revolution generated by the pioneering protein crystallographers in the second half of the twentieth century has created a huge database of known protein structures. These are increasingly being used to design new drugs and therapies, as well as provide novel engineered reagents for industrial processes. While the three-dimensional structures of proteins are often beautiful in themselves, our ability to use and manipulate them is becoming increasingly valuable.
