One of the most influential of all scientists, Laplace worked prolifically in many branches of mathematics, including probability and statistics. His early work was Bayesian, as in the use of a beta prior for binary data. Other topics include generating functions, characteristic functions, the Laplace transform, the central limit theorem, and many results in least squares.
