Summary

Each search has its own nature or character. Depending on the kind of information that is wanted, the underlying line of enquiry will be different. Questions asked along the line of enquiry will differ between searches and the answers to these questions will be handled differently, depending on the nature of the search. Seven different kinds of searches are presented.

In one examined search, the aim is to get information which will inform an assignment. The task is to discuss the relationship between virology, BSE (Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy) and CJD (Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease). The search line passes through several sites based in the USA and the UK, culminating in a university site that, with great creativity, melds science, history and politics. The line of enquiry would almost certainly enthuse a student and inform them of contexts as well as providing a solid base of information which could contribute to their assignment.
