Summary

Many research groups offer pages of introductory background which can be useful for a novice biologist. In the more advanced parts of such web pages, it is wise to be wary, since in a few sites, researchers might be using the web to inflate the importance of their work. If the web page makes reference to peer-reviewed research published in appropriate journals then the information is almost certainly reliable. This chapter uses the example of a good, scientifically reliable, cancer research group to show how research pages can be investigated.
