Summary

The three major types of search engines, human driven, robot driven and metacrawlers are described. Students are given examples of search protocols on biological topics such as flavoproteins and photosynthesis. The currently most common search engines are briefly described and compared, together with their faults and advantages. Advice is given on how to get round limitations of frames on some websites.
