The important types of transformations catalyzed by homogeneous Au(I) and Au(III) complexes or salts are reviewed. The reactions are organized mechanistically on the basis of the main functional group being activated by the gold catalyst. Particular emphasis is given on the most general reactions for the formation of C[BOND]C bonds.
