Abstract

Currently used electrolytes for lithium ion batteries have poor thermal stability, which results in a decrease in their calendar life. The thermal decomposition reactions of LiPF6-based electrolytes in solution and with the surfaces of the electrode materials are reviewed. Methods to inhibit thermal decomposition reactions and improve calendar life are also discussed.
