Summary
The authors present a review epidemiologic studies of the 1980s and 1990s that use standardized interview instruments, operationalized diagnostic criteria, and reported data on widely agreed-upon diagnostic categories. The chapter focuses on two categories of mood disorder: major depression and dysthymia, and on five anxiety disorders: panic disorder, agoraphobia, social phobia, generalized anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
