Chiral agrochemicals may exhibit high enantioselectivity in xtheir biological effects. Among insecticides, many pyrethroids of chiral structure exhibit highly enantioselective insecticidal activities. There is also an example of highly enantiospecific adverse effects on mice. Organophosphorus insecticides and fungicides, triazole fungicides and plant growth regulators; acylanilide fungicides and herbicides; fungicides of other types; aryloxypropanoates; herbicides of other types; insect juvenile hormones; and pheromones frequently show high enantioselectivity in their biological activities. Among insect pheromones, various patterns of selectivity are known, such as synergistic, antagonistic, and also independent activities between the respective antipodes. A variety of preparative methods of enantiopure compounds, including the use of chiral synthons, is employed. Asymmetric induction procedures using novel chiral catalysts are also effectively employed, particularly in preparing asymmetric pyrethroids, acylanilide agrochemicals, and pheromones.
