Summary
Study data may be collected in many different ways. In addition to surveys, which are cross-sectional, biomedical research data may come from different sources, the two fundamental designs being retrospective and prospective. This chapter begins with an introduction to some basic concepts and techniques of survival analysis. Next, we present Cox's regression models, followed by a discussion of methods for matched data. In the last few sections of the chapter we return to topics of retrospective studies, the analysis of data from matched case-control studies. A problem solving section appears at the end of the chapter.
