Giant molecules form the basis for the plant kingdom being the materials that make up the leaves, steams, trunk, vascular system, adhesive, etc. Plant-derived giant molecules serve as the materials for our paper, food (starches), many of our coverings (cotton and wool fabrics and wood), etc. Other important giant molecules are covered including the bitumens used as the tar of our roads and lignin used to recover petroleum. Photosynthesis is also covered in this chapter.
