Summary

This chapter provides a step by step example of a direct conversion receiver front-end in SiGe BiCMOS process. At first, the system calculations are described, followed by the circuit design approaches. Afterwards, the design and simulation steps relevant to the design of such receiver is addressed in details. Necessary characterization steps are demonstrated afterwards, with specific discussions on the measurement results for two different types of direct conversion receivers operating at 5–6 GHz frequency range. This chapter could be used to mimic a class project for integrated receiver subsystems design from scratch.
