Summary

This chapter describes the theory, design, fabrication and measurements on subharmonic receivers. This type of receivers are becoming increasingly attractive for next generation wireless receivers in multigigahertz regime. First, theoretical principles of subharmonic receiver and frequency planning is presented, followed by the specific circuit demonstrations, along with system considerations. Implementation in silicon based technologies is addressed as well. Finally, a demonstration of C-band direct conversion receiver implemented in GaAs MESFET technology is provided for better understanding and appreciation of the techniques discussed.
