Summary

Chapter 6 concentrates on network (distribution/delivery) layer. It includes many issues relating to the quality of service and network performance, traffic analysis and management. We also present modeling video source and network traffic. Traffic management is analyzed together with routing procedure in multimedia communication. Signaling in communication networks is discussed. Security issues in networks with Internet access are also provided. We conclude this chapter with multimedia transport and distribution, together with generic networks, broadband access networks, wireless communication networks and streaming media networks. The goal of this chapter is to pave the way for future developments in the field and for a better understanding of its potential in today's world.
