Summary

Chapter 3 covers the characteristic group frequencies of alkanes arising from C[BOND]H and C[BOND]C stretching and bending vibrations. Those vibrations associated with straight chain, branched chain and cyclic systems are examined. The use of isotopic substitution and the influence of hetero-atoms on these group frequencies are considered.
