Summary

The chapter serves as a focused introduction to fuzzy sets and their calculus. The paradigm of fuzzy sets is also cast in the framework of granular computing where fuzzy sets are sought as examples of information granules. Discussed are operations on fuzzy sets (including their realizations in terms of t- and s-norms), properties of fuzzy relations and a general processing paradigm supported by fuzzy sets.
