The large diversity of organisms is organized or classified into many categories according to the characteristics they share with other organisms. These characteristics are similarities in such factors as structure, genetics, biochemistry, and reproduction. The major categories that are used to classify organisms consists of the following: Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species.
