This chapter derives the systems of differential equations that mathematically model a two phase induction and synchronous machines. The concept of leakage is presented and accounted for in the derived models. These models are the accepted models used throughout the literature and form the basis for high performance control of these machines.
It is shown in an optional section that from the physics point of view, the induction and synchronous machines operate in a similar fashion in steady-state.
The chapter ends with another optional section on the concept of field energy, coenergy and how the expression for the torque can be derived using these notions.
