Abstract
This is the protocol for a review and there is no abstract. The objectives are as follows:
The objective of this review is to determine the effectiveness of selective dorsal rhizotomy in the management of children with spastic cerebral palsy. Specifically we wish to answer the following questions:
1. Compared with physiotherapy alone, does selective dorsal rhizotomy plus physiotherapy reduce spasticity in ambulatory children with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy ?
2. Compared with physiotherapy alone, does selective dorsal rhizotomy plus physiothrapy improve motor function in ambulatory children with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy?
3. Does selective dorsal rhizotomy reduce the need for subsequent orthopaedic surgical intervention in ambulatory children with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy?
We also wish to assess the safety of this procedure by answering the question:
4. What are the short and long term adverse effects of selective dorsal rhizotomy in this population?
