Abstract

This is the protocol for a review and there is no abstract. The objectives are as follows:

This review aims to assess the effect of electrical stimulation on the healing of chronic wounds, and to explore how varying different parameters of the stimulation affect healing (e.g. waveform, total current, net electrical charge (coulombs/sec), pulse amplitude, stimulus frequency, pulse duration, treatment schedule, and polarity, electrode placement etc). The review will seek to answer the following questions:

1. Does electrical stimulation accelerate the closure of chronic wounds?

2. If yes, how does varying the stimulus parameters (waveform, total current, net electrical charge, pulse amplitude, stimulus frequency, pulse duration, treatment schedule, and polarity, electrode placement etc. affect healing?
