  2. Abstract

This is the protocol for a review and there is no abstract. The objectives are as follows:

Primary objective:
1.To quantify the dose-related systolic and/or diastolic blood pressure lowering efficacy of alpha blockers versus placebo in patients with primary hypertension.

Secondary objectives:
1.To determine the effects of alpha blockers on variability of blood pressure.
2.To determine the effects of alpha blockers on pulse pressure.
3.To quantify the dose-related effect of alpha blockers on heart rate.
4.To quantify the dose-related effect of alpha blockers on withdrawals due to adverse events.
