This is the protocol for a review and there is no abstract. The objectives are as follows:

To determine the effectiveness of calcium supplementation for improving bone mineral density in children.
To determine if any effect varies by sex, age or pubertal stage, ethnicity or level of physical activity.
To determine if any effect persists after cessation of the intervention.
