  2. Abstract

This is the protocol for a review and there is no abstract. The objectives are as follows:

The primary objective of this review is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of loop diuretics in reducing adverse effects caused by administration of blood transfusion for anemia in preterm infants.

We plan subgroup analyses based on:

a) weight at the time of transfusion (< 1.0 kg, > 1.0 kg )
b) gestation at time of transfusion (< 30 wks gestation)
c) mode of respiratory support (on ventilator or CPAP, no assisted ventilation)
d) oxygen requirement (oxygen dependent, non-oxygen dependent)
e) volume of blood transfusion (10 ml/kg, > 10 ml/kg )
f) type of diuretic (furosemide, other diuretic)
