This is the protocol for a review and there is no abstract. The objectives are as follows:

1. To quantify the effects of antihypertensive drug therapy on mortality and morbidity in healthy adults with mild hypertension (diastolic BP 90-99 and / or systolic BP 140-159)
2. To quantify withdrawals due to adverse drug effects for antihypertensive drug therapy in healthy adults with mild hypertension.
3. To assess the effect of antihypertensive drug therapy on blood pressure in healthy adults with mild hypertension.
