This is the protocol for a review and there is no abstract. The objectives are as follows:

This review aims to assess the effects of alpha blockers on successful resumption of micturition following removal of urinary catheter after an episode of acute urinary retention in men.

The following comparison will be addressed:

1. Alpha blocker versus placebo or sham treatment;
2. Alpha blocker versus another alpha blocker; or
3. Alpha blocker versus another treatment.
