This is the protocol for a review and there is no abstract. The objectives are as follows:

The objective of this review is to examine all randomized controlled trials of cervical preparation methods for second-trimester surgical abortion. The trials will be compared with regard to differences in procedure time, dilation achieved (mm), need for additional dilation, complication rates, ability to complete the procedure, patient pain scores, and patient and provider acceptability and satisfaction.
