Abstract

This is the protocol for a review and there is no abstract. The objectives are as follows:

To determine if intra-amniotic instillation of surfactant for women at risk of preterm birth, compared to placebo or no treatment or post-delivery tracheal surfactant instillation, reduces morbidity and/or mortality in preterm infants. If intra-amniotic instillation is effective, to determine if the following factors effect efficacy:

  1. gestational age at time of intra-amniotic surfactant administration;

  2. type of surfactant instilled;

  3. dose of intra-amniotic surfactant administered;

  4. indication for intra-amniotic surfactant administration - reason woman was considered to be at risk for preterm birth at trial entry;

  5. multiple pregnancy.
