Abstract

This is the protocol for a review and there is no abstract. The objectives are as follows:

The objective of this review is to determine the effectiveness of interventions designed to increase the implementation of thromboprophylaxis in hospitalized medical and surgical patients at risk for VTE. Effectiveness will be assessed in terms of:

  1. Increase in proportion of appropriate use of thromboprophylaxis.

  2. Reduction in proportion of clinically diagnosed VTE (all VTE; DVT (any, proximal, distal); PE and fatal PE).

  3. Reduction in proportion of asymptomatic VTE (as detected by systematic screening of patients who do not have symptoms of DVT or PE.
