Abstract

This is the protocol for a review and there is no abstract. The objectives are as follows:

To determine the efficacy and safety of acupuncture for children with mumps. We intend to test the following hypotheses.

  1. Acupuncture improves the symptoms of mumps. These include swelling, pain in or around the neck, ears and cheeks, and returning the body temperature to normal.

  2. Acupuncture shortens the duration of mumps.

  3. Acupuncture reduces mumps complications (meningitis, encephalitis, arthralgia, orchitis, mastitis, oophoritis and pancreatitis).
