This is the protocol for a review and there is no abstract. The objectives are as follows:

To compare the relative effects of treatment with a combination of inhaled steroids, long-acting beta2-agonists and tiotropium against tiotropium alone on markers of exacerbations, symptoms, quality of life, and lung function.
