Abstract

This is the protocol for a review and there is no abstract. The objectives are as follows:

This study aims to explore the effects of arm exercise training (prior to and or post A-V fistula surgery) designed to affect A-V fistula functioning and long-term functional survival in adults with CKD.

  1. Does arm exercise training designed to affect A-V fistula functioning (prior to or post A-V fistula surgery) affect: the A-V fistulas' functional survival (months), cephalic vein cross-sectional area (cm²), cephalic vein, radial and brachial artery diameter (mm), blood-flow in radial and brachial arteries (mL/min), upper limb circumference (cm), endothel-dependent and endothel-independent vasodilatation (%), patients' experiences of post-surgical pain and or discomfort?

  2. To what extent do the patients comply with the arm exercise training (compliance %)?

  3. What are the factors that affect compliance to the arm exercise training intervention?

  4. Are there any adverse events related to the arm exercise training?
