This is the protocol for a review and there is no abstract. The objectives are as follows:

To determine the effectiveness of folic acid supplementation in the prevention of anaemia of prematurity and to determine whether the response will vary depending on dose, gestational age or birthweight and to determine whether the response will vary depending on dose, gestational age or birthweight.

Subgroup analysis is planned by birthweight (< 1000 g, 1000 to 1500 g and > 1500 g), gestational age at birth (< 28, 28 to 32 and > 32 weeks) and dose (such as 100 mcg or less versus > 100 mcg daily).
