This is the protocol for a review and there is no abstract. The objectives are as follows:
To evaluate the effects of different vascular access types (AVF, AVG, or CVC) on major vascular access outcomes including access suitability, need for access evaluation or intervention, and access failure in patients with ESKD receiving haemodialysis.
To evaluate the effects of different vascular access types on other major patient-centred clinical outcomes including mortality, infection-related mortality, cardiovascular-related mortality, infectious events, non-fatal cardiovascular events, all-cause hospitalisation, access-related hospitalisation, quality of life, and surrogate outcomes of access function in patients with ESKD receiving chronic haemodialysis.
To evaluate whether study population characteristics, variation in vascular access location, configuration or materials, or study design features explain the heterogeneity that might exist in these estimates of effect of each of the haemodialysis vascular access types.
