This is the protocol for a review and there is no abstract. The objectives are as follows:
The objectives of this review are to assess:
the clinical efficacy of antihistamines in alleviating nasal symptoms (nasal congestion, rhinorrhoea and sneezing) in adults and children suffering from a common cold;
the clinical efficacy of antihistamines in shortening the duration of the illness; and
the evidence on side effects of antihistamines and hence the risk to benefit considerations of this type of medication for the common cold.
