Abstract

This is the protocol for a review and there is no abstract. The objectives are as follows:

Primary objective

To examine the efficacy and safety of oral stimulation interventions on oral feeding in preterm infants before 37 weeks postmenstrual age (PMA).

Secondary objectives

  1. To examine the efficacy and safety of oral stimulation interventions on oral feeding in preterm infants in the following subgroups:

    1. infants born < 28 weeks PMA;

    2. infants born from 28 to 32 weeks PMA;

    3. infants who are breast-fed exclusively;

    4. infants who are bottle-fed exclusively;

    5. infants who are both breast- and bottle-fed.

  2. To examine the efficacy and safety of NNS intervention only on oral feeding in preterm infants.

  1. infants born < 28 weeks PMA;

  2. infants born from 28 to 32 weeks PMA;

  3. infants who are breast-fed exclusively;

  4. infants who are bottle-fed exclusively;

  5. infants who are both breast- and bottle-fed.
