This is the protocol for a review and there is no abstract. The objectives are as follows:
To determine the efficacy and safety of videolaryngoscopy compared to direct laryngoscopy in decreasing the time and attempts required for endotracheal intubation in neonates.
To determine the effectiveness of videolaryngoscopy in decreasing the adverse effects, including hypoxia, bradycardia and hypotension, due to delay in successful establishment of an airway in neonates.
To determine the effectiveness of videolaryngoscopy in decreasing airway injury, including palatal, laryngeal or pharyngeal injury, during endotracheal intubation.
Subgroups based on birth weight, experience of personnel, presence of congenital airway malformations and type of videolaryngoscopy equipment will be analyzed if data are available.
