This is the protocol for a review and there is no abstract. The objectives are as follows:

To compare the effectiveness and safety of chemoradiotherapy plus surgery with that of chemoradiotherapy alone in people with nonmetastatic esophageal carcinoma in terms of OS, progression-free survival (PFS), quality–of-life (QoL), treatment-related mortality and morbidity.
