NASA's Kepler mission to search for habitable planets outside of our solar system has discovered hundreds of additional extrasolar planet candidates, and it could be that Earth-sized planets are fairly common in the Milky Way galaxy. Those are some of the headlines from a 7 January briefing at the American Astronomical Society's meeting in Long Beach, Calif.
