The Canadian Space Agency's workhorse RADARSAT-1, the nation's first Earth observation satellite, is no longer operational, the agency announced on 9 May. The satellite, which launched in 1995, had experienced a technical anomaly in March that could not be resolved. RADARSAT-2, launched in 2007, continues to provide users with data, and the agency is planning for the launch of the RADARSAT Constellation Mission of three satellites in 2018.
