Comment on “Annual cycles of ecological disturbance and recovery underlying the subarctic Atlantic spring plankton bloom”
- The Dilution-Recoupling Theory (DRT) computes biomass accumulation rates from depth-integrated biomass in autumn and winter but from surface concentration in spring
- This formulation is valid during autumn and winter. Hence the DRT provides a useful explanation of winter ecosystem functioning
- This formulation is invalid during spring. As a consequence, the DRT does not provide an explanation for the evolution of the spring bloom.
