We present an introductory overview of the strong force, one of the four known fundamental forces in nature. We review the historical developments of strong interaction physics, which led to the formulation of quantum chromo dynamics (QCD), our accepted theory of strong interaction. We discuss the salient features of QCD, its experimental evidence, as well as some of the techniques used in QCD calculations.
