Abstract

Lighting is the application of visually effective optical radiation. This chapter provides the reader with some basic information about lighting terminology and technologies (lamps, ballasts, luminaires, and controls), and the results of recent research on the effective use of lighting. This article supplements the articles on color vision; colorimetry; optical radiation sources and standards; and physiological optics.
