Summary

In the paper, the effects of RE or/and Ca addition on SCC behaviour of Mg-Al alloys were studied by three-point bending method with intermittent spray of deionized water or regular immersion in 3.5% NaCl + 2% K2CrO4 solution. The two experimental results reveal that the RE addition has beneficial effect on improving SCC resistance of Mg-Al alloy. The Ca addition to Mg-Al-RE alloy or Mg-Al-RE-Zn alloy can obviously raise their strain value and time to SCC failure. The Ca addition is also helpful to increase SCC resistance of Mg-Al-RE alloys.
