Application of magnesium alloys as a structural materials is expediently important in the manufacturing of that types of technical devices, where the main demand is weight reduction. From this point of view the development of magnesium alloys with the increased strength, corrosion resistance and other characteristics, providing efficiency, increasing service life, competitiveness of the expensive technical constructions in the aviation and space, and also automobile industries is of a specific interest. In the automobile industry the weight reduction of the construction itself due to the application of the highly specific strength of magnesium alloys gives the opportunity to increase the efficiency, the speed, the payload, to reduce fuel consumption and reduce inertial forces in rotating parts. The capability of magnesium alloys to withstand the impact loads is provided by low modulus of elasticity. The specific vibration strength of magnesium alloys is higher than that is of aluminium and steel, that makes it possible to use them in high tensity vibroshock conditions.
On the basis of studying of the interaction character of the alloys different components, the braces between composition, structural stability and properties the new cast magnesium alloys and the technology of their smelting and casting are being studied and implemented in All Russian Institute of Aviation Materials.
