Summary

This study investigates the use of sedimentation as a method of separating Zr particles that formed in molten Mg for further analysis. Electron probe micro analysis was used to characterise the chemical distributions of particles within the samples. The results obtained are presented to help explain the phenomena of grain refinement in Mg containing low levels of Zr.
