Summary
Sheets of magnesium alloys are one important option for the mass reduction in car manufacturing. Within the project “MIA” – Magnesium in Car Manufacturing sheets of the magnesium wrought alloy AZ31 were produced using a hot rolling mill. The mechanical properties of these sheets were investigated for various thicknesses of the sheet material.
All these results including the surface properties like surface roughness and the microstructure of the specimens were compared with commercially available magnesium AZ31 sheets.
