Summary

In this work the powder injection moulding of a part with complex geometry has been performed using the C-MOLD® simulation code of Advanced CAE Technology, Inc. This software utilises the combined method of finite elements/finite difference/control volume. Besides the cavity, the geometry model included also runners and cooling channels. Thermal properties of the commercialised feedstock of 316L steel produced by BASF AG were measured and together with the process parameters typical for the real moulding used as the input parameters for the simulation. The location of weld/meld lines, melt front advancement, development of pressure and temperature have been studied depending on different process parameters.
