Summary
The High damping of pure Magnesium is caused by the high mobility of dislocations in this metal. This effect leads to a very complex damping behavior depending on temperature, frequency of the mechanical vibrations, internal strain amplitude of the alternating loading and the history of the previous loading of the material even in the elastic region. One intention of this contribution is to characterize and explain this behavior in more detail in order to enable users to make more advantage of the damping properties of these materials.
